War & Philately, Banstead, Surrey

A very brief report on another highly successful War & Philately event (our seventh stamp, postal history and postcard fair) held at the Banstead Community Hall, Park Road, Banstead in Surrey.  In addition to a variety of dealers and a couple of local philatelic societies (Epsom and Ewell PS and Redhill PS) the local Banstead History Research Group also had a table for a wartime-related display.  Once again we must thank Peter High for organising the event and his wife Dee for running the refreshments on the day itself.  As usual a small band of us help set up the hall on Friday afternoon and also pack up on the Saturday.

Again as usual the Society had a table in the entrance hall to meet and greet people, especially members.  For the second year running we managed to sign up a new member.  As well as all the dealers in the main hall we had two member dealers in the entrance hall and through our joint help in looking after the table, Peter managed to sell a number of books.  There were a number of exhibits on the stage including a small display of German POW letters sent from Banstead POW Camp in WWII.  We are looking forward to another successful event in 2019 - it appears that War & Philately at Banstead has become well established in the philatelic calendar and grows from strength to strength with each passing year.
