FPO 704 & 8 Command Pay Office in 1946

I recently purchased a registered cover from Warcover - It was addressed to Command Paymaster, 8 C.P.O. CMF and postmarked BASE ARMY POST OFFICE4 on 21 JU 46 with a similar markiong on the reverse together with FPO 704 of 25 JU 46. It has B.P. 14 stamped on its registration label. The problem I have is that I cannot find the location of either 8 CPO or FPO 704: The only numbered CPO files in The National Archives are 6, 9, 16, 18, 19 & 20 CPOs. As for FPO 704 Proud Vol III shows it as being returned to the Home Postal Centre (HPC) 28.8.45.

Does anyone have any information on the location of these two items please?

Well, I can’t answer your questions as such, but I can state the obvious, since no-one else has 😁: it seems unlikely the item went from Cairo (Base APO 4) to its central Med. destination via the UK. Proud has FPO 704 in Corsica from August 1944 to the end of 1944. It seems more probable, surely, that FPO 704 was still in, or had returned to the Mediterranean theatre by the time of your item, June 1946. If that is so, then I suppose the conclusion is that the source of Proud’s information was in error.
