With the aftermath of World War Two Middle East Land Forces (MELF) was reorganised in 1948 following the final withdrawal of British Troops from Palestine. A new system of higher command came into operation and followed a phased programme due for completion by 1 September 1949 Within the new set-up Kenya came under the control of East Africa Command.
