POW and Internment Mail in the UK

Belmont Hospital Sutton Surrey

The Workhouse was closed in 1915 and in May 1917 a Hospital for POWs and internees was opened there with 875 beds rising to over 1000 the same year. By May l9l9 it held older weaker men from Alexandra Palace awaiting room at Islington and who were unsuitable for tents at Frith Hill.
