Is this sender identification?
I attach scans of a registered cover postmarked EA APO 55 11 XI 42, stated in History of the East African Army Postal Service, Rossiter ed Proud to be located at Gigigga, ie Jijiga (Ethiopia), after control of Ethiopia was restored from the British Military Administration to Emperor Haile Selassie. Postage to Kenya was free under the forces concession while the registration fee, which was still required, was paid by the postal stationery indicium. My query relates to the annotation "FROM No. CA596" on the reverse." It looks as if it was probably written at the same time as the address. Mail through East African APOs usually bears no (external) indicator of the sender, and the number does not fit my expectation of a service number (too short for one thing!). Am I right about that? My other thought to date is that it might be the Bank's reference number, but has anyone any other suggestion?
