Query: Location(s) in Iraq, 1942
The attached Hounour envelope is addressed to Indian Forces X, Base Camp C, Basra. Does anybody know what X & C were (other than code letters..)?
I've managed to decipher the forwarding address - it is 'Iraq Composite FSS, MEF'.
FFS = Field Security Section - interesting.
the Aden cancel is 17 May 42, franked 2 1/2 annas for surface mail. Of the four backstamps, unfortunately the earliest on 25 June has an illegible location (perhaps Base Office No.7), then two Indian FPO No 102 dd JU 42 and 28 JUN 42 (Proud states at Mosul), presumably arrival then redirection, and finallly INDIAN SECTION BASE OFFICE No7, 2 JLY 42 (Baghdad)
Grateful for any help on the locations.
