R.T.F.G.G. Army Post Office 4860

Hi,

I would be grateful if any member has knowledge of the meaning of R.T.F.G.G. on this air letter and the location of APO 4860. I am unclear as to whether this is a British Army PO despite the recipient being initially in the RASC. Also, what is the meaning of the pencil inscription 29 R.

I know the back stamp EA APO 87 was at Nairobi and I am pretty sure E.A.E.M.E. is East Africa Electrical and Mechanical Engineer

Michael, I can categorically tell you that the addressee was in a East African military camp north of Nairobi. He had been transferred back from Ceylon where he was stationed at the EA reinforcement camp. I believe the R and T could stand for Recruitment and Training, and with one of the Gs denoting group. I believe he was most probably a member of the RASC seconded to the East African forces. By this stage of the war all military mails passing through Nairobi airport were routed through APO 87
