Royal Naval Armament Depot (RNAD) Wrabness

I have received the following enquiry:

I am researching the Royal Naval Armament Depot (RNAD) Wrabness/Copperas Wood Nr Harwich Essex. I would like to find out how mail was sent and received at the WW1/WW2 Mine Depots (rail/PO). Whether letters were censored at the depots or local PO's. If any members have 'entires' /censored letters, either in or out of the depots. I would like to include an example in my local history presentation.

Do we have a member who can help please? Has anyone any mail sent from the RNAD? Any help appreciated please.

Many thanks, Mike

This site as far can see in the records did not have Post Office in its own right, so would have used the local civil post office for mail, which might have been collected by the Post office from a post room.

As for Censorship I would suggest it would be the same as for civil population. For the World War 2 unless it was going aboard (or had traverse the Sea like Northern Ireland) there would not be a need to be censored. I believe it was similar system for WW1.

Staff of depot would have signed the Official Secrets act, so would be aware what could and could not be said in letter.
