WW1 Navy

I have a WW1 cover machine cancelled 29 December 14 addressed to Engineer Lieutenant Kenny RN, H.M.S. Mars, c/o GPO London.

The ship appears to have been based at Portland at this time.

I am keen to discover how Kenny progressed during the war. Did he gain promotion. Did he survive?

Any help appreciated

Hi, Tony, I don't have many WW1 Navy Lists, so I can't tell you much. However, in the April 1916 List, he's on the books of HMS Challenger, but in the October 1918 List, he has no ship listed against his name. His rank is (still) Temporary Lieutenant. I'm not sure what the bureaucratic significance of the word 'Temporary' might be, but at least it seems highly likely that he survived the war.
