Grenadier Guards

Hi, I am looking for any information on Sergt. W. Hampson 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards (No 8052) who was in Bermuda between August 1890 and July 1891. I know he had a relative (sister?) - Miss Hampson of 4 Oxford Grove, Manchester who he was writing to in April 1891. I am doing an article on the story of the Grenadier Guards being sent to Bermuda for insubordination and would appreciate any info on him. Many thanks.

Hello Nigel, The 1881 Census for 4 Oxford Grove, Manchester, shows Harriet Hampson, a Widow, as "Head of the Household", with her son Frank and daughter Annie. The 1871 Census however, shows Harriet living with her husband, Francis together with another son, William born around 1858. I am still looking for more records concerning William and if I have any success I will post more details here... Regards, Malcolm
