I have received the following from a Society member in the Middle East:

I was wondering if you know someone that’s good at US forces - I have this cover and would love to know who the sender is and confirm that it is Salalah Dhofar (RAF)

It could be that A.T.C. on your cover stands for Air Transport Command (rather than what I first thought as Air Traffic Control).  You will see from the text in the above link that there is a mention of “Salala, Arabia (now Oman)” (i.e. one ‘l’ and not two as in the cover).

From what I see on the cover, it could be that Maurice Binder was an employee of Johnson Drake & Piper Inc. – you will see under the PASSED BY ARMY EXAMINER handstamp there is the typewritten COMPANY MAIL which I originally thought referred to an army unit, but then viewed it properly and came to the idea that Binder was a company employee sending official mail to the company – I did an internet search on the company and results that came back show During World War II, the firm did construction work in the Middle East for the Corps of Engineers, US Army.
