ROYAL NAVY IN SENEGAL WW2.

I attach a scan of a Royal Navy envelope post marked Daker, Senegal on or about 9 August, 1943. Censored using Type R.109 censorship marker, and perhaps a Senegal civil censorship marker. By this stage of the war Senegal had switched allegiances from the Vichy regime to the Free French cause. Can members enlighten me as to if there were any RN bases in Senegal or is this from a visiting ship.

I've just got around to re-checking Bill Garrard's list, and HMS Fann is indeed listed for Dakar - at the bottom of page 15. Sorry I missed it first time around - the only tool I have for combining optical recognition with a physical scan is the Mark 1 eyeball, sadly. Not the most reliable instrument :-(
